Children join their parents for family worship during the first part of the Sunday morning service. Children from the age of 4 (unless accompanied by the mother), then leave the service with their teachers for Sunday School, held in the Tudor Hall, attached to the church, while the service continues. Mothers of younger children are able to care for their little ones in the comfortable and attractive Baby Room with little chairs and toys for their toddlers, while seeing and hearing all that is happening in the main auditorium. During school holidays, the pastor often has a special message for the children during the service.

The Peakview Pre-Primary School, catering for children from the age of 2, is an independent Christian-based preschool that is affiliated to the church is also on the premises.

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP

Once the our children reach their Teens they move from Sunday School over to our Youth Fellowship.

This group meets in Thembalethu at the church, twice a month. This alternates between Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

Every quarter we also have a special fun activity

As the church is surrounded by student residences for the University of Cape Town and Medical School and the Cape Town University of Technology, we seek to provide a spiritual home and church family for all students from across the world.

In addition to the regular worship services, there is also a growth group which meets on a Tuesday evening for fellowship, mutual encouragement and Bible study, relevant to their situation and needs.

GROWTH GROUPS

Our vision is that every person in the church will commit to being part of one of the ministries so as to be involved in more than just the Sunday worship services. At MBC we refer to home-based and other regular Bible study meetings as Growth Groups. This is because it is through participation in these meetings that Christians grow in their faith. The church has a number such groups which meet during the week for fellowship, mutual encouragement and spiritual uplift, Bible study and prayer. You are welcome to join the group which best suits your schedule and proximity. On the last Wednesday of each month we all meet together for a joint prayer meeting.

PRAISE AND WORSHIP MINISTRY

The people at Mowbray Baptist love to sing. As our congregation consists of people of all ages from many different countries and cultures, we sing a wide variety of the great hymns of faith and contemporary songs of worship and praise to God our Father, Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord, and the Holy Spirit our Comforter, Provider and Guide. At some services the singing is accompanied by the pipe organ and piano, while at others it is accompanied by other instruments such as the guitar, drums, keyboard, flute and violin. We love to encourage Christian musicians to serve the Lord with the talents He has given them, so if you are looking for such an opportunity, you would be most welcome to audition.

Our services are  led by our multinational Worship Team, so that the congregation learns to sing praises to God not only in English, but also in the languages of others who attend our church.

Baptists are people of the Book, so different members of the congregation often have the privilege of reading the Scripture on which the sermon is based. Corporate prayer is also a vital part of praise, worship, thanksgiving and intercession. Some therefore also have the privilege of leading the congregation in prayer during the services.

We are grateful to God for those whose talents do not lie with being in the limelight, but who are able to serve the Lord unobtrusively by using their technical talents. Mowbray Baptist is a church family where everyone is important and everyone is encouraged to be involved in using whatever talents they have to serve, praise and worship their Saviour and Lord.

If you would like to get involved through singing or playing an instrument, or if you are able to assist in managing the projector during the service, or helping out at the sound desk, then please speak to Kathy Hall, the deacon in charge of the ministry.

“A truly good wife is the most precious treasure a man can find!” – Proverbs 31:10 (CEV)

The MBC Women;s Ministry is often referred to as the Rose Ministry because our purpose is summed up in the simple motto: “Reflecting Our Saviour’s Example”, forming the lovely acronym: ROSE.

This ministry brings together a diverse group of young, professional and older women, who are local and from several different countries. Our focus is on prayer, outreach, the empowerment of women, crafts and other interests, friendship, fellowship  and service through the provision of food for the body and the soul!

All are welcome to  come and make  new friends and become part of our family. Simply contact Lisa Agenbag, Sonya le Grange, Colleen Smith,  Megan Becker at church, or call the church office to be placed on our contact list.

The church supports a number of missionary societies and individual missionaries in Southern Africa and other parts of the world.
The church also gives support to the Rooiwal Baptist Church in the Northern Cape and the Noordoewer Baptist Church on the other side of the Namibian border. Rooiwal Baptist Church was planted by our senior pastor when he was the associate pastor of the Claremont Baptist Church, some years ago.

Joshua served as a student Pastor at Mowbray Baptist Church from 2009 to 2016. He was then called to plant a Reformed Baptist Church, in Kasama town, Northern Province in Zambia where he served until 2021.
In 2021 he came back to Cape Town to study Master of Theology in New Testament at George Whitefield College and has been back at Mowbray Baptist Church since 5 April 2021, where he fulfils a caretaker and elder role.
Joshua is always grateful to God, the church leadership, and the all church at large, for this wonderful opportunity and privilege to serve in God’s vineyard.

His responsibilities are as follows: church maintenance as a caretaker, part of the worship team, eldership responsibilities, teaching and preaching God’s word, and leading a Bible Study.

Pastor Joshua & his family are originally from Zambia. Married to his lovely wife Nchimunya (lovingly known as Chichi) and they have two sons; Joshua Junior (7 years old) and Micah (3 years old). Nchimunya works for Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). Joshua Junior is in grade one at Grace Primary School, in Pinelands, while Micah is at Peakview Pre-Primary School.
